Dokkaebi is a 3D animated film which tells the story of a young Dokkaebi (a Korean mythical creature) who has to overcome his shortcomings to take care of a baby and earn his title as a guardian Dokkaebi. It is an inspiring story about perseverance and not having to be the best to make a difference.
I worked on the early visual development of this film to explore the mood, style and some of the designs of the film.
One of the first things I was tasked to do as a visdev artist was to quickly paint a early production painting to explore the color palette, style and mood of the film. I took a scene from the animatic and developed it into this rough painting.
Tis painting was later used to inform the design for the rest of the film.

Prop designs, referencing 2000s era Korean countryside lifestyle.
This is a background design for one of the scenes, where there are supposed to be crops placed in the foreground.
